CHELSEA DOUBLE STOREY BASEMENT

MJ Rooney employed an innovative underpinning system to construct this two-storey basement in Chelsea, London, supported by Crofton Consulting Engineers for interior design. The project involved complex below-ground engineering, earthworks, and foundation improvements. We utilised hand excavation to create 9-metre-deep shafts for installing columns onto pad foundations and constructed 9-metre-high wall sections of underpinning.

These deep foundations were essential to support the building structure and facilitated the early formation of a ground-floor concrete slab. This enabled us to implement a top-down construction approach, significantly accelerating the construction timeline. The meticulous planning and execution ensured the stability and integrity of the project, exemplifying our expertise in managing complex residential constructions in urban environments while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
