WATERPROOFING AN HISTORIC PRISON

MJ Rooney was commissioned to provide a waterproofing solution and a new car park for a historic site in Clerkenwell House, London, now used for local housing and offices. This project required meticulous care due to the historic vaults of Clerkenwell House of Detention directly below the car park. The scheme aimed to preserve this beautiful structure for future generations.

Working with ACS Structures for interior design and Casson Conder Partnership as the architect, MJ Rooney developed a comprehensive approach. We designed a temporary works solution to support key parts of the structure during the process. The car park was surfaced and waterproofed using the Proteus Cold Melt System, ensuring durability and protection of the underlying vaults.

This project demonstrates MJ Rooney's capability to handle complex commercial projects with precision and respect for historical integrity, combining modern construction techniques with sensitive restoration efforts.
