WHAT IS THE STRUCTURAL WATERPROOFING CONFERENCE

MJ Rooney will be attending the annual Structural Waterproofing Conference in Telford this year! This event is a key gathering for professionals dedicated to advancing the technologies and methodologies in structural waterproofing. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from experts who bring a wealth of experience and insight into the latest innovations and best practices in waterproofing solutions. The conference promises to be an invaluable platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring new products and techniques that ensure the longevity and integrity of structures.

WHY THE STRUCTURAL WATERPROOFING CONFERENCE IS A MUST-ATTEND EVENT

The event itself is centred around industry experts giving talks on specific components of construction. This can vary from an overall view of a subject such as insulation to an extremely precise look into the crystalline structures of concrete. As a basement/new build construction company, the talks open up new ideas and considerations for our construction methods. For example, this year Kerry Halfpenny will be doing a talk on flood risk. This will be very relevant to us due to the low-lying nature basements are obviously very susceptible to flood risk. Although we are fully aware of this and already designed for, it's almost a guarantee that someone who specifically studies such risks is going to be able to teach us something new. It has always been and hopefully continues to be an edifying experience being in a room full of water-heads!!

With the likes of Andrew Devitt speaking on flood resilience and Elizabeth Reynolds on underground urban design, it should make for an interesting event! We have been active members of the PCA for many years, attending events, giving talks and even being on the board at one point. The PCA are an extremely useful organisation to be involved with, not only for the high quality of training and informative literature it provides but it also gives you a chance to be involved in positive changes to the industry, (such as the updated version of BS8102 2022)

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

This year there is a buzz about a certain subject at the conference and its name is the Building Safety Act! Laura Beveridge will be giving a talk on the Act's first year and how it is affecting the industry. As a ridiculously compliant company that goes above and beyond all regulations, we have not really felt its effects but any safety enforcement for construction is great, as the talk hopefully will be!!
