2024 Mental Health Awareness Week 2 - MJ Rooney

Supporting Emotional Wellbeing in the Construction Industry

In the construction industry, physical safety has long been a priority, but as we have made strides in reducing on-site accidents, another significant challenge has come into focus: the emotional wellbeing of our workforce.

Despite the progress in physical safety, the mental health struggles that many face on a daily basis are not often talked about. With a 30% increase in families within the construction industry reaching out to helplines for support, it's clear that the emotional challenges in our industry are growing.

Supporting Mental Health Week 2024

During Mental Health Week 2024 (12th to 18th May), here at MJ Rooney we are committed to helping support and to raise awareness around this issue. Moreover, we encourage others in the industry to join us in thinking about the mental and emotional wellbeing of our teams.

It is fair to say as an industry we do lag behind many other industries regarding this topic. However, if you are interested in learning more and how you can contribute to a healthier work environment, we encourage you to visit both the Mental Health Foundation Awareness Week page and the Lighthouse Construction Industry charity for guidance, tips and advice.

We hope you find the content valuable, and even if you implement just a few of the suggestions, take pride in knowing that you are contributing to the well-being of your team and advancing our industry's approach to mental health.
